All eligible midwives are entitled to 9 days locum cover for their own personal caseload per year. In addition to the 9 days annual leave, the RMRRS provides an emergency service allowing up to 5 days emergency locum cover for midwives.
If you are a self-employed LMC midwife with a minimum of 50% of your caseload for the last 12 months being rural/remote rural, PLUS, you have a minimum of 20 women who fit into the rural/remote rural criteria, you are likely to meet the eligibility criteria for nine days paid locum relief. Semi-Rural women do not qualify.
Each application is considered on its own merit and we urge you to apply if you are unsure.
The RMRRS has a process for managing applications, assessing eligibility, booking and payment for the service. We will check your caseload numbers with the MOH and or MMPO.
If you meet the above criteria, we may be able to provide emergency locum cover to enable you to make arrangements to have your women transfer to another midwife, or for you to return to work.
We make every effort to meet your needs within 24 to 48 hours of your initial request. The main reasons for emergency cover include: bereavement, sudden illness, family emergency, accidents and the need for emergency health care.
To be provided with emergency cover you must already be approved by the RMRRS.
