Queenstown Midwives are an established independent rural LMC team based in the Queenstown Lakes District.
We work with our local primary maternity hospital, located 180km’s from our nearest base hospital in Invercargill.
We are looking for experienced midwives to fill LMC vacancies within our busy team in 2015. Caseload is flexible with supportive backup.
We are fortunate to live in a remote but beautiful place with an amazing outdoor lifestyle, so regular time off and breaks are necessary and supported!
Rural experience preferred, however rural mentorship via MMPO is also available and encouraged.

We are seeking ‘Know Your Midwife’ case-loading midwives to provide continuity of care to Oamaru women and their whanau/families.
Our midwives will have capped caseloads and a MERAS MECA salary and with MERAS safe staffing levels for rural midwives. Full and part time positions no less than 0.5FTE are available. New graduate midwives are also welcome to apply.
Oamaru Maternity Centre is a rural midwifery led primary birthing unit with 2 birthing rooms, a birthing pool and 3 postnatal rooms. We also have 2 antenatal clinic rooms. Our midwives are supported by experienced Enrolled Nurses.
We currently have a 30 % primary birthing unit rate at Oamaru Maternity and approximately 10 % homebirth, both with excellent outcomes. We would love to increase this for our local community women. We provide midwifery care to around 240 women per year.
All kit is provided, e.g. car, petrol , pager , phone and midwifery gear. When necessary we transfer to Queen Mary in Dunedin for secondary care where we hand over to core staff and return to Oamaru with the ambulance.
There is a monthly obstetric clinic in Oamaru with a consultant from Dunedin.

LMC position(s) - Wanaka
Wanaka Midwives is an established independent rural LMC team, covering the greater Wanaka area. We provide antenatal care in a clinic, attend home births and primary unit births (1 hr away), and work with an intrapartum team for women choosing to birth in Dunedin (tertiary) or Invercargill (secondary).
We are looking for midwives to fill LMC vacancies in our rapidly growing community. There is also an opportunity for a short term locum position (3-12 months) to cover a midwife’s leave in 2018, starting immediately.
Wanaka is an incredible place with skiing, climbing, tramping and fishing at our doorstep. Regular time off and breaks are supported within our practice.
Rural experience is beneficial, however there may be mentoring through RMRR rural retention if needed. A relocation grant may be available.
