SUPPORTING AND SUSTAINING MIDWIFERY FOR RURAL COMMUNITIES

The service has been established to support the retention of midwives practicing rurally as Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs) and the recruitment of midwives to join or set up practices in rural areas that are experiencing a shortage.

Locum Service

LOCUM
All eligible midwives are entitled to 9 days locum cover for their own personal caseload per year. In addition to the 9 days annual leave, the RMRRS provides an emergency service allowing up to 5 days emergency locum cover for midwives.

Mentoring

MENTORING
Rural midwifery is often in geographically isolated areas therefore, rural midwives are required to have a special set of skills and coping mechanisms for optimum and sustainable caseloads.
